CALM - Crisis, Aggression, Limitation and Management
What's New
BILD Reaccreditation
CALM Training has been an accredited training provider under the BILD accreditation scheme since its inception. We have recently undergone our 3 yearly re accreditation. The assessors report in June 2009 on observed training - part of the re accreditation process - recorded the highest category in every section and in many areas it noted "exceeds expectation of scheme."
Following attendance at the subsequent accreditation panel in June, CALM Training was once again re accredited with the panel commenting on the overwhelmingly positive contribution made by CALM to the wider restraint agenda.
CALM Quality Assurance Award
Successive national reports have highlighted the poor quality of care offered by some services supporting vulnerable service users who present challenging behaviour in the child care, education and adult learning disability sectors. The use of restrictive physical interventions remains a highly contentious and often misused area of practice.
The CALM training model is one of a small number of training organisations accredited under the national physical intervention scheme administered by the British Institute for Learning Disability (BILD). CALM has been acknowledged as achieving the greatest impact and safest results in several UK and US national level reports. However such results are dependent on a constructive relationship with user agencies, and their compliance with the strict underpinning quality assurance procedures. The CALM Quality Assurance Award was developed to recognise the efforts of those services fully compliant with the CALM and BILD Quality Assurance procedures. Its award should be recognised as indicative of a commitment to best practice standards by awarded organisations.
